Here’s to new news: I AM MOVING TO LONDOOON in OCTOBER!
And no, I have not booked my one-way ticket to London yet with still on the going dilemma between Emirates, Qatar, and Turkish Airline. There is a 15+ hours direct flight from Taipei to London non-stop, but that shall bomb my ass off, better to get my living soul off the craft to walk a bit and breathe the sky blue air. Emirates has only one stop at Dubai then off, so does Turkish Airlines that stops at Istanbul and provide free city tour for travelers transit over 6+ hours, and can visit Hagia Sophia, the capital of Byzantine Empire, the city that is divided into Europe and Asia!!! Or fly with Qatar and transfer at Hong Kong and Doha then London. I thought about hopping around Hong Kong for a few days before leaving Asia, but with putting my life in a 30+7 kilos luggages roaming and pushing around in the bustling city, it’s better I just get to the Big Ben city right away. I want to make good use of stopover and I guess you can feel my anticipation of wanting to visit Istanbul but hesitate due to the previous attack, the story felt so close to me after one of my high school classmates was right at Ataturk Airport when everything happened, sharing what was going out there, which no one really know what was happening at the moment in the airport, but crazily dashing around and screaming, in the end he wrote “i just want to go home”, and that really really is beyond word scary and frightening.
Yes! Alas this day has come! I’ve been thinking about this day since 4 years ago when I graduated about moving to this big city. My first few articles from this blog were from my graduation trip back then. There’s this imitate feeling when I second time went there, older enough to understand the history, connecting my learning and knowledges altogether abreast of this multi-culture Royal country. I knew London is a big city, the fact it really hits me how big it was, was when I saw a job post from Guinness World Records looking for Mandarin speaking Legal person, and never in the world have I thought there is this company or job out there, geezs, it really really blew me away.
I believe reading till here you might be wondering what I am going to do there or how do I get a visa to work there. Taiwan passpost waive visa to UK for 6 months under tourist visa and 90 days to Schengen area countries, which undoubtedly it’s one of the nice passport to hold for traveling now, ranked #29 for passport travel accessibility, and waive visa to more than 160+ countries, not bad for such a small country 😉 And I suppose there is a privilege of being young, young as in before 30 (lol). UK releases Tier 5 Youth Mobility Visa to 8 countries’ youth from Australia, Canada, Japan, Monaco, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Republic of Korea, and Taiwan, who are in there 18-30 years old to move to UK to live and work for 2 years. For more details can check out UK Gov site about the Tier 5 Youth Mobility Scheme. For what to do there as in occupation, in a sum not to complicate everyone else: the visa can do any job in UK as long as you are capable to find one yourself, except doctor, nurse, coach, those that needs UK certified license.
There’s only 1000 slots every year for Taiwanese, each country open different amount of slots, with the numerator being the same and denominator endless every time, it’s pretty much by luck and faith to receive this visa, at least that’s what everyone says online. I was lucky enough to apply twice and both time receive the eligibility of visa, while reading on the internet realizing there are some people out there applying 6 times and still no luck in obtaining it, I feel very very grateful and thankful.
However, I gave up the first time as I realize I wasn’t that ready to move abroad, but now I am pretty much ready!
I have to be honest there’s a mix of excitement, anxious, nervous, adventurous all boiling inside me. But if your dream doesn’t scare you enough, perhaps it’s not something big, is it? Though there is this obstacle we have to leap forward to bring those anxiousness away, perhaps it’ll be one hella adventure?
While away from blogging, I was putting myself together preparing for London, driving those anxious away, and drifting daydream mind into another piece of writing. Feeling very accomplish, as never had I thought this day will happen in my life is to freelance travel writing for brand. Besides travel blogging I started freelance travel writing for Skyscanner early this year. I’ve opened up a page to update my newest writing, as their site doesn’t generate a link for writer, bear in mind contents are in Chinese, but if you are looking adventurous way to learn Chinese, here’s your chance 😉
Short update about life recently. I shall update my blog soon before I jet off to Europe, I hope to connect with European blogger out there if you are in Europe while I go traveling and meet new friends. Okay, I know this sounds cliche but while I was still thinking about heading to England or not, I doze off this one sunny afternoon on the couch and dreamed of chilling, dazing the constellation night sky on Navagio Beach in Greece, the feeling was remote and serene, perhaps a bit lonely and a bit bored nothing much to do on the beach, but that night sky, that night sky. The after effect of watching the Descendants of the Sun, if you know what I am saying, but so surreal!
Anyhow, that dream pretty much push my decision of going abroad, and I was long for a big change in life, the big move people say: that might change your life forever. I don’t know where this move will take me to, who I’ll meet down the road, but I know it’s time to get out of my comfort zone and explore this world more.
The world is big and I want to have a good look at it before it gets dark. Shall we?
