the family MUST EAT CNY dish, 10 vegetables each represent different blessing and prosperous via ingredient character sound

Happy 94 years old grandpa!!!
Cheers to the year of Monkey!!! ๐Ÿ™‰

Nothing can beat homemade scrumptious Shanghainese food like this.ย
Every year is a blessing to prepare hometown meal for Grandpa whose birthday is on the first day of Lunar calendar aka 1st day of CNY, mesmerizing his taste of home, with him gazing us incredibly how we pulled of this stunt. ย Not to mention, none of us grew up in Shanghai, but remember the taste of food Grandpa made when he still cooked. ย

Grandpa always asks me “do I look like 90+”
And I always have to remind him “grandpa you are 90 by number, heart and soul at 70, please walk and eat slowly!!!” ย  ย
He is indeed very healthy for someone who is 90 years old, and a blessing for us.

It takes us two weeks to prepare all the ingredients and dishes, especially the soup, endless nights stewing and stewing, topping more ingredient each day to bring out the luscious divine taste. ย The thing about Shanghainese food is it is so complicates and meticulous, all those tiny details for food. ย

We celebrate Chinese New Year from the Eve of Eve’s till the 15th day of Jan of the Lunar calander. Eve of Eve’s is the day everyone start to travel back home for CNY Eve’s gathering.

  • Chinese New Year Eve’s- family gathering, stay up late to bless elderly good health and long live
  • 1st day of CNY- family gathering, visit places to celebrate first day of spring
  • 2nd day of CNY- daughter who are married come back home to visit family of origin
  • 3rd day of CNY- there is a saying it’s the day mouses get married (hmm…the first day of workout perhaps?)
  • 4th day of CNY- pray for God of Wealth
  • 5th day of CNY- Business start
  • 15th day of CNY- Lantern Festival

January went by in a blink of an eyes, I have no idea where all the time has gone. ย For the very first time on CNY, my family and I will be traveling abroad on this long holiday. We’ve never gone abroad as it was not a good idea to travel elsewhere when having elderly at home, but we got an approval nod this year, and you’ll find me somewhere tropical from here. ย *my instagram seems a bit social outcast because of exposure bug. that’s right, i have no clue why my instagram has bug, the colors would exaggerate change into over exposure while posting, prior it even crash when i went from choosing the photo to the special effect step, how weird can this be? i’ve deleted my account numerous time if you are wondering. ย it still happens every now and then, just that i found a way to upload photos, currently playing around photos apps finding the perfect colour balance.

Wish everyone a healthy prosperous year ahead!
